Where to stay near Myeongdong eye clinics (2026 guide)

Where should I stay for eye surgery in Myeongdong?

As close to your clinic as you can reasonably get: ideally within a 10-minute walk, or a short taxi ride. After LASIK or SMILE your eyes will sting and water for a few hours and you will want to keep them closed, so a long journey home through crowded streets is the last thing you need.

Myeongdong is in Jung-gu, central Seoul, and the surrounding neighbourhoods are compact. We do not recommend specific hotels or businesses; this page explains how to choose. Transport details were checked on official sources on 1 November 2026.

What should I look for in the room?

Your recovery needs are simple but specific:

  • Quiet and dark: blackout curtains or blinds, away from street-facing rooms in busy Myeongdong
  • A lift: you may have blurry vision going up and down stairs
  • Clean, dust-free air: keep dust and irritants away from healing eyes
  • A kettle or fridge: to stay hydrated and keep any drops cool if instructed
  • Flexible check-in and check-out: surgery days rarely run to the minute
  • Free cancellation: the exam may change your plan

Avoid accommodation where the main attraction is a sauna or jjimjilbang bathhouse; you should stay away from hot tubs and pools for 1–2 months after LASIK, according to the FDA.

What type of accommodation suits recovery?

Hotels, serviced apartments and guesthouses all work if they meet the basics above. Think about what matters on the two or three days around surgery rather than for the whole trip:

  • Hotels: a front desk can call a taxi, hold luggage and help in Korean if something goes wrong at night
  • Serviced apartments: more space and a kitchen, useful for longer ICL stays; check there is someone to contact out of hours
  • Guesthouses and hostels: cheaper, but shared bathrooms, bunk beds and noise make rest harder; a private room is strongly preferable after surgery

If you are travelling alone, a staffed reception matters more. The FDA advises arranging for someone to bring you home after surgery, as your vision may be blurry; ask the clinic whether a coordinator can help you get back, or plan a taxi.

Save the clinic's address and your accommodation's address in Korean on your phone. Taxi drivers may not read English addresses, and you will not want to read a map with freshly treated eyes. The Korea Travel Hotline (1330) can interpret for you by phone at any hour if you need help with a driver.

How many nights should I book?

For LASIK or SMILE, book at least 4 nights: arrival, exam, surgery and the day-one check. Five or six gives a buffer. For ICL, allow about a week. See 3-day LASIK trip itinerary, 5-day SMILE trip itinerary and 7-day ICL trip itinerary.

Do I need anything to enter Korea?

Check before you book. Nationals of 22 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia and Japan, are exempt from K-ETA until 31 December 2026; others need one. See K-ETA and medical visa for Korea. For help in English at any hour, call the Korea Travel Hotline on 1330 (+82-2-1330 from abroad).

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Myeongdong a good place to stay for LASIK?

Yes, if your clinic is there. It is central and close to the AREX airport train at Seoul Station, but the main shopping streets are busy and noisy, so choose a quiet room.

How far should my hotel be from the eye clinic?

Ideally within a 10-minute walk or a short taxi ride. You will want to go straight back and rest with your eyes closed after surgery.

How do I get from Incheon to Myeongdong?

Take the AREX express to Seoul Station (about 43 minutes from Terminal 1, 51 from Terminal 2), then a short taxi or metro ride. Limousine buses need tickets bought in advance.

Can I stay in a jjimjilbang after LASIK?

Avoid it. The FDA advises against hot tubs and whirlpools for 1–2 months, and steamy, crowded spaces raise irritation and infection risk.

Should I book a refundable room?

Yes. The exam may show a different procedure suits you, which can change your dates. Free cancellation keeps your options open.
