SMILE Pro Cost in Korea: 2026 Prices for Both Eyes

How much does SMILE Pro cost in Korea?

SMILE Pro in Seoul costs about ₩3 million to ₩5 million for both eyes, typically around ₩4 million, or approximately $2,200 to $3,700. Prices were checked in 2026.

That spread is normal in Korea, where clinics set their own prices for non-insured vision correction and frequently run seasonal events. The table below combines the 2026 figures we could verify.

Option (both eyes) Price (KRW) Approx. price (USD) Notes
SMILE Pro, typical range ₩3,000,000–₩5,000,000 $2,200–$3,700 Both eyes, 2026
SMILE Pro, lowest advertised From about ₩2,000,000 From about $1,450 Usually an event or promotional price
SMILE Pro, typical quote About ₩4,000,000 About $2,900 Middle of the Seoul range
Standard SMILE, for comparison ₩2,200,000–₩3,200,000 $1,600–$2,400 See SMILE LASIK cost in Korea

USD figures are approximate at roughly ₩1,350–₩1,400 per dollar. Some Korean ads quote a single eye; one price guide notes that one-eye surgery usually costs about 50–60% of the both-eye price.

Why does SMILE Pro cost more than standard SMILE?

SMILE Pro uses a newer laser platform, and clinics pass on the equipment cost. Expect to pay roughly ₩800,000–₩1,800,000 more than for standard SMILE (₩2.2M–₩3.2M) for both eyes.

SMILE Pro is the name for SMILE performed on the ZEISS VisuMax 800 with SMILE pro software. ZEISS says the laser creates the lenticule in less than 10 seconds, using a 2 MHz pulse rate. The US FDA approved the VisuMax 800 with SMILE pro software for nearsightedness with or without astigmatism, announced by ZEISS in January 2024. The basic operation is the same as SMILE: the surgeon removes a thin lenticule of corneal tissue through a small incision, with no flap. For a clinical comparison, read SMILE vs SMILE Pro.

What's included in a SMILE Pro package?

Most Korean SMILE Pro quotes are packages that cover the surgery and the first months of aftercare. A typical package includes:

  • The full pre-op exam: corneal thickness, topography, pupil size, eye pressure and refraction
  • A consultation with the surgeon
  • SMILE Pro on both eyes
  • Post-op eye drops and protective eyewear
  • Follow-up checks, typically the next day and over the following weeks

Ask in writing whether the exam, drops and later follow-ups are included. Korean price guides list post-op drops at about ₩50,000–₩150,000 and a separate exam at about ₩50,000–₩150,000 when they are not. See our pre-op eye exam guide for what the tests involve.

What changes the price of SMILE Pro?

The clinic, the surgeon and the package contents matter more than your prescription for SMILE Pro.

Factor Lower price Higher price
Clinic and location Smaller clinics, outside central Gangnam Large brand clinics in Gangnam
Timing Seasonal events (often 30–50% below list) Full list price
Surgeon Less senior surgeon Named senior surgeon
Package Surgery and basic aftercare Extended follow-up, foreign-patient coordinator, interpreter
Add-on options None Extra imaging or customization, often ₩200,000–₩500,000 each

Is SMILE Pro worth the extra cost?

For most people, SMILE Pro and SMILE give similar visual results; the main differences are laser time and workflow. SMILE Pro's shorter suction time can make the procedure more comfortable, but the evidence does not show a large difference in final vision.

If budget matters, standard SMILE or LASIK in Korea(₩1.5M–₩2.5M) may suit you just as well. Your exam decides which procedures are safe for your eyes, so compare prices only between the options your surgeon confirms. Our SMILE vs LASIK comparison explains the trade-offs.

How do SMILE Pro prices in Korea compare with the US?

Korea is usually far cheaper. US surveys put SMILE at about $2,000–$4,000 per eye, so a both-eye US price is often about one and a half to nearly three times a typical Seoul SMILE Pro quote of around ₩4M (approximately $2,900). Our SMILE cost: Korea vs USA page has the full comparison, and the total trip budget guide shows how flights and hotels change the math.

What are the risks I should weigh against the price?

SMILE Pro is still surgery, and a low price does not change the risks. Possible problems include dry eye, glare or halos at night, under- or over-correction and, rarely, infection or corneal problems. Not everyone is a candidate; thin or irregular corneas, unstable prescriptions and some eye diseases can rule it out. Get a full exam and follow your ophthalmologist's advice. How do I compare SMILE Pro quotes from different Seoul clinics?

Put every quote on the same basis before you compare: both eyes, the same laser, and the same aftercare. Headline prices in Korea are easy to find, but what they include varies a lot.

Ask each clinic to confirm the following in writing, ideally by email before you fly:

  • Laser: that the procedure is SMILE pro on a ZEISS VisuMax 800, not standard SMILE on an older VisuMax
  • Basis: whether the price is for one eye or both eyes
  • Exam: whether the pre-op exam is free, deducted from surgery, or charged even if you are not a candidate
  • Medication: whether post-op drops and protective eyewear are included
  • Follow-up: how many visits are included and what happens after you leave Korea
  • Re-treatment: whether a touch-up is included, for how long, and on what conditions
  • Payment: deposit and cancellation rules, accepted cards, and any card surcharge

Event prices are common, but check whether the event price applies to foreign patients and to the surgeon you want. A quote that looks ₩500,000 cheaper may exclude the exam, drops or follow-ups, which can close the gap.

Also ask for English-language receipts and a short medical report. You may need them for an HSA, FSA or tax claim at home, and your home eye doctor will want your pre-op and surgery data. Our questions to ask your surgeon list works for SMILE Pro too.
