LASIK in Korea vs Turkey: Which Is Better? (2026)
Is LASIK cheaper in Korea or Turkey?
Headline prices are close. Turkish listings start slightly lower, while Seoul prices are more consistently quoted for both eyes, so the cheaper country depends on the clinic and on what the package covers.
Our Seoul range for LASIK is ₩1.5M–₩2.5M, approximately $1,100–$1,900 for both eyes, checked in 2026. Bookimed, a medical-travel booking platform, listed Turkish laser eye surgery in October 2026 at about $1,000–$2,000 for LASIK, $900–$1,600 for LASEK, $1,200–$1,700 for PRK and $1,500–$2,400 for ReLEx SMILE, though not every listing states whether it covers one or both eyes. Acibadem, a large Turkish hospital group, says vision correction in Turkey is typically priced per eye and confirmed only after a corneal scan. Read every quote carefully, and convert any per-eye price to a both-eyes total before comparing. See LASIK cost in Korea.

Which procedures can I get in each country?
All the main procedures are available in both, so availability rarely decides it.
Turkish listings include LASIK, femtosecond (IntraLase) LASIK, LASEK, PRK and ReLEx SMILE, with lens surgery such as ICL quoted after a scan. Seoul clinics in this directory offer LASIK, LASEK, SMILE, SMILE Pro and ICL. Korea has a particularly dense cluster of high-volume refractive clinics in Gangnam. Whichever country you pick, the procedure should be chosen after your exam, not booked in advance.
What should a quote include?
Compare inclusions and the number of eyes, not just the headline price.
Acibadem lists what a serious Turkish quote should cover: a full diagnostic workup (topography, pachymetry, pupil and tear-film tests, dilated retinal exam), the named method and laser platform, both eyes, surgeon and theatre fees, drops and follow-ups during the stay, and a written enhancement policy. That is a good checklist anywhere. In Seoul, ask the same questions, plus whether the exam fee is waived if you book surgery; see eye exam cost in Korea. Get every quote in writing before paying a deposit.
How do travel and aftercare compare?
Turkey is the shorter trip from Europe, the Middle East and North Africa; Korea is the shorter trip from East Asia and often comparable from parts of North America and Oceania.
Plan at least the day-1 and a later check before flying in both countries. Korea's K-ETA requirement is waived for 22 countries until 31 December 2026; others pay ₩10,000. See K-ETA and medical visas and flying after LASIK. Once home, you will rely on a local eye doctor, so request your operation records in English; see getting medical records in English.
How do I judge safety and clinic quality in either country?
Look at the clinic and surgeon, not the country: both have very experienced refractive surgeons and both have low-cost operators who cut corners.
KHIDI data reported a record 1.17 million foreign patients in 2024, with US patients making the most ophthalmology visits. In Korea, institutions and agencies that recruit foreign patients must be registered with KHIDI, so ask for that registration. In Turkey, international patient services operate under the Ministry of Health's HealthTürkiye programme, and some hospital groups hold JCI accreditation. Either way, check:
- That an ophthalmologist, not a coordinator, examines you and explains why a procedure suits you
- The exact laser named on your quote, such as a ZEISS VisuMax or Alcon WaveLight platform
- Who treats a complication, and at what cost, after you fly home
- Whether the clinic will say no if your corneas are unsuitable
The questions to ask a LASIK surgeon work in both countries.
Who should choose which?
Seoul may suit you if you:
- Live in Asia, Oceania or North America, or are already travelling in the region
- Want a dedicated refractive clinic with a wide choice of lasers, including SMILE Pro
- Prefer prices clearly quoted for both eyes
Turkey may suit you if you:
- Live in Europe, the Middle East or Africa and want a shorter flight
- Prefer a large hospital setting with JCI accreditation
- Find a written package that covers both eyes and follow-ups at a lower price
In either country, choose the surgeon and aftercare plan first, and walk away from any clinic that will not examine you before quoting a final price. Compare with LASIK in Korea vs Thailand.
