SMILE LASIK in Myeongdong, Seoul: Clinics, Cost & Patient Guide
Can I get SMILE in Myeongdong?
Not that we could verify. The eye clinic we checked beside Myeongdong Station, Myeongdong Seoul Bright Eye Clinic at 123 Toegye-ro, lists LASIK, LASEK, ICL and cataract surgery, but SMILE does not appear on the listing pages we reviewed in November 2026. We found no other Myeongdong clinic listing SMILE. That may change, so if you find one, ask whether it uses a ZEISS VisuMax platform and how many SMILE cases its surgeons perform.
Myeongdong is Seoul's best-known shopping and tourist district: cosmetics stores, street-food stalls, Namsan and N Seoul Tower above it, and Namdaemun Market a short walk west. It has the densest concentration of tourist hotels in the city, which is why many visitors want their eye surgery nearby. For SMILE, the practical answer is to stay in Myeongdong and take the subway south.
Where is the nearest SMILE clinic to Myeongdong?
The closest cluster we verified is in Sinsa and Apgujeong, reached on Line 3 from Chungmuro Station, which adjoins Myeongdong. Gangnam Station, with the largest number of SMILE clinics, is a little further.
| Destination | From Myeongdong | Approx. time | Clinics listing SMILE we verified |

What does a SMILE trip look like from a Myeongdong hotel?
A short, manageable commute. Most SMILE trips need three clinic visits (screening, surgery and a next-day check), so the main planning question is how you will get there and back on surgery day, when your vision will be hazy.
| Day | Plan from Myeongdong |
|---|---|
| Arrival | Check in; rest; no contact lenses |
| Screening | Line 3 from Chungmuro to Sinsa or Apgujeong (or Line 2 to Gangnam); allow 3–4 hours with dilation; bring sunglasses |
| Surgery | Go by subway; come back by taxi with your eyes closed |
| Next day | Morning check; sightseeing in central Seoul later if comfortable |
| Following days | Gentle sightseeing with sunglasses; avoid dust, smoke and swimming |
Keep the clinic's address in Korean on your phone to show taxi drivers, and ask the clinic to call a taxi for you after surgery if possible. Many visitors choose a hotel near Chungmuro or Myeongdong Station on the Line 3/4 side to cut walking time. If you would rather not commute, book the surgery night and the next night near the clinic and return to Myeongdong afterwards. See 3-day trip itinerary and what to do in Seoul after eye surgery.
Should I stay in Myeongdong or move closer to the clinic?
Either works. SMILE needs a screening visit, the surgery and a next-day check, so you will make the trip south three or four times. Staying in Myeongdong is fine if you are comfortable with a 15–35 minute subway ride or a taxi. Moving to a hotel near the clinic for the surgery night and the next day is easier, and many visitors split their stay. See where to stay near Myeongdong eye clinics and near Gangnam eye clinics.

What is SMILE and who is it for?
SMILE removes a thin lenticule of corneal tissue through a small incision, so no flap is cut. SMILE Pro uses ZEISS's VISUMAX 800, which creates the lenticule in under 10 seconds and is FDA-approved for nearsightedness with or without astigmatism. It suits stable myopia in healthy corneas; it is generally not used for farsightedness. Risks include dry eye, glare and halos and under-correction. Read SMILE vs SMILE Pro, SMILE recovery and SMILE vs LASIK. If you prefer to be treated in Myeongdong itself, ask the local clinic whether LASIK or LASEK would suit you instead.
How much does SMILE cost?
SMILE costs ₩2.2M–₩3.2M for both eyes (approximately $1,600–$2,350), and SMILE Pro ₩3M–₩5M for both eyes, typically around ₩4M (approximately $2,200–$3,700). Ranges checked in 2026 at about ₩1,350–1,400 per dollar. See SMILE cost in Korea.
